Migrating Knowledge Base Solution Accelerator from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010

Be sure you have at least the Minimum SharePoint 2007 Product Release (shown in the table below) installed before migrating. If not, upgrade your Bamboo product release before migrating. For more information, see Upgrading your Bamboo Web Part. Also, the target SharePoint 2010 farm requires at least the Minimum SharePoint 2010 product release shown.

Icon-Warning IMPORTANT: When migrating from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010, you MUST select the option to change existing SharePoint sites to use the new user experience. Your Bamboo products will not perform as expected with the old look and feel.

In-Place Upgrade
Issues With the release of SharePoint Knowledge Base Solution Accelerator for SharePoint 2010, new site templates have been included for SharePoint 2010 deployments. If you migrate in-place, you cannot use these new templates. (confirm this).

Note: For the KB Client Meeting Workspace template from SharePoint 2007, we do not support the migration and upgrade of the template to R2.0 for SharePoint 2010.

Other known issues if using the In-place Upgrade method:

  • Users are unable to change the choices in the Article Status column of the Article list.
  • Unable to change List Names in the KB Admin site.
  • No German or other language site templates are available in Release 2.0.
Resolution Bamboo Solutions recommends building new Admin and Client Knowledge Base sites and migrating existing data to the new sites. (HOW?) If the SharePoint 2007 site templates must be used, update the URL of each Web Part with the correct site URL. Bamboo Solutions recommends using relative URLs whenever possible.
Database Attach Upgrade Method
Issues With the release of SharePoint Knowledge Base Solution Accelerator for SharePoint 2010 2.0, new site templates have been included for SharePoint 2010 deployments. Bamboo Solutions strongly recommends using the new site templates for future upgrade support.

  1. If using old site templates from SharePoint 2007 and relative paths were used in Web Part configurations, users will see errors for images on the new SP2010 farm because the links in the Picture Library are invalid.

  2. If absolute paths were used, users will see the following error on the Bamboo KB Tree View, Bamboo KB Tag Cloud, and Bamboo KB Display Article Web Parts:

OnPreRender: The Web application at [Site URL] could not be found. Verify
that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving
existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request
URL mapping to the intended application

The Bamboo KB Search Web Part will display this error

OnLoad: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
