Migrating Knowledge Base from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013

Be sure you have at least the Minimum SharePoint 2010 Product Release (shown in the table below) installed before migrating. If not, upgrade your Bamboo product release before migrating. For more information, see Upgrading your Bamboo Web Part. Also, the target SharePoint 2013 farm requires at least the Minimum SharePoint 2013 product release shown.

Icon-WarningIMPORTANT: When migrating from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013, the Database Attach Upgrade Method is the only method supported.

Issues Knowledge Base migrates successfully except for two conditions:

  1. If absolute paths were used to configure the web parts in the SP2010 farm, users will see the following error on the Bamboo KB Tree View, Bamboo KB Tag Cloud, and Bamboo KB Display Article Web Parts:
OnPreRender: The Web application at [Site URL] could not be found. Verify
that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving
existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request
URL mapping to the intended application

The Bamboo KB Search Web Part will display this error

OnLoad: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
  1. If you choose to upgrade the user interface to the SP2013 Look and Feel, tabs in the navigation may disappear.
Resolution To resolve the first issue, update the URL of each Web Part with the correct site URL. Bamboo Solutions recommends using relative URLs, whenever possible.

To resolve the issue with the tabs, run the KB Upgrade Utility. See TBD for more information.
