How to Use the Mini-Calendar Web Part to Filter a SharePoint List

Return to Configuration Overview

You can connect Mini-Calendar to a SharePoint list view to provide a date filter for displaying list items. When you do this, clicking on a date in Mini-Calendar will filter the list items to display only those items that are relevant for the selected date.

NOTE: If you attach the Calendar to the Events list, you will not be able to filter for columns Begin and End via Web Part connection since those SharePoint columns are not filterable.

Step Action Result
1.

Add Mini-Calendar to a page that also contains a web part that displays a SharePoint list view. Configure Mini-Calendar to display items using the instructions provided in Configuring Mini-Calendar.

NOTE: If you elect not to configure Mini-Calendar to display items, you can still use it to filter a list. However, there will be no indication in Mini-Calendar regarding which dates contain items to display and which dates do not contain items to display.

2. Select Edit Web Part from the upper right drop-down arrow on Mini-Calendar or edit the web part page by clicking Edit Page in the Page ribbon.
3.

In the Mini-Calendar edit menu, select Connections > Provide Row To and select the SharePoint list you want to filter. You can only select from lists that are on the same page where Mini-Calendar resides.

In the example below, we will be filtering a list called Tasks.

  • In this example, the Due Date column is selected.

Click Finish to complete the Mini-Calendar connection to the selected SharePoint list.

NOTE: Only date columns included in the view that is displayed in the SharePoint list web part will be available for selection. If you do not see the date column you want to filter on, edit the SharePoint list web part and select a new view or update the existing view in the source list to add the column you need.

2. Maximum items to display per day in calendar This setting defines the number of items that will be displayed in the tooltip when you hover over a date in Mini-Calendar.
3. Select Style Sheet:
  • If Default CSS is selected, Mini-Calendar will use the master page CSS to define the color and style of the web part.

  • Click Custom CSS to define a custom CSS for the Mini-Calendar Web Part.

For more information about customizing the Mini-Calendar Web Part CSS, see the section CSS for Mini Calendar.

4. Enter calendar width This setting allows you to shrink Mini-Calendar views further by defining a fixed pixel width. Use this setting instead of the Height and Width settings in the Web Part tool pane Appearance section to prevent scroll bars.
