Microsoft ended mainstream support for SharePoint 2007 in October 2012. See Microsoft’s Lifecycle Support Policy.
At that time, Bamboo stopped enhancements to our SharePoint 2007 product line, but continues to provide support and bug fixes to customers with active support contracts until October 2017. Previously purchased licenses will continue to function after October 2017, but support for these products will end, and no additional bug fixes will be provided beyond that time. Bamboo plans to cease selling new licenses and annual support contacts for its SharePoint 2007 products in October 2016 to ensure customers will be eligible to receive support for at least one year after purchase.
Microsoft plans to end mainstream support for SharePoint 2010 in October 2015. See Microsoft’s Lifecycle Support Policy. At that time, we will stop any enhancements for our SharePoint 2010 product line but will continue to provide support and bug fixes for our SharePoint 2010 products to customers with active support contracts until October 2020. 1. Search within this list: From this drop-down selector, you choose the list or list rollup data view from which to search
2. Field Name Based on your above selection, the list of field names (columns) within your list display in the drop down selector.
3. Comparison You have choices for which to find data; based on the type of field, the choices for that column type display.
4. Value Select or type in your values for your search.
5. And/Or

If you have more criteria, you can do an and/or selection and set the criteria on the next line.

For example, if you want to search Last Name begins with A or Last Name begins with B, you would use the OR selector and no other last names would be produced in your search results, only those people who have a last name beginning with A or B would be displayed.

6. Group/Ungroup You can choose to group your search results. Using the above example, you could group everyone with the last name beginning with A in one group and everyone with the last name beginning with B in the next group. If you don’t like the grouping, you would check the box next to the selection and click the Ungroup button.
7. Delete If you are not satisfied with your selection criteria, you can delete a row. Just check the box at the beginning of the row you want to delete and click the Delete button.
8. Display Search results using this view:

Select the View to use to determine which columns will be shown in the search results.

NOTE: any filtering configured on the View will not be applied. However, additional criteria can be specified to refine/filter the search results.

9. Search Results For List Search Advanced, all the search results appear on screen below the search criteria. In the search results display, click any column heading to sort the results by that column.

You can click again on the same heading to reverse the sort order.
10. Print Preview Click the Print Preview button to get a quick look at how the search results will appear when you print.

Select Modify (or Edit) Shared Web Part from the menu accessed at the upper right corner of the Web Part. This menu is only accessible by users with authority to modify the page. The configuration page for the List Advanced Search Web Part is displayed on the right side of the screen. Expand the Bamboo Properties section to configure the following:

NOTE: If you select Bamboo List Rollup as your data source, enter the URL for the web part page where your List Rollup Data Views reside and then click the green arrow icon as shown below.

Available Lists

Select available list(s) from the Available Lists box. If you select SharePoint List as your data source, the Available List will contain all the lists in your current SharePoint site.

Highlight one or more available lists and move them to the Display Lists column list by clicking the right arrow button. If necessary, move them off the Display Lists column list by clicking the left arrow. Click the double arrow buttons to select or/deselect all available lists.

NOTE: If you select Bamboo List Rollup as your data source, this list will show the list rollup data views that reside on the specified web part page.

In the next section, there are several options, which we have numbered as a help to quickly orient each setting’s description in the table below:

1. Default Selection for Search Select one of the lists in the Display Lists column list to display by default to end users. If nothing is selected, the end user will need to first choose the list to search in before selecting any search criteria. This is a nice feature if you are allowing your end users to search in only one available list – select it as the Default Selection for Search to save the end user the time it takes to select a list. When visiting the page, they will just need to select search criteria before executing their search.
2. Keep Search Criteria with Search Result Page Check this box if you want the search criteria to “stick” on the page when the results are displayed. If you don’t check this box, the results are displayed with a Back button so the user can easily get back to the criteria.
3. Show Print Button Check this box if you want to display the web part print button.
4. Disable Lookup Field

Check this box to disable populating Lookup field values in the Value column of the Web Part. This will disable populating the Value column with any Lookup field values in the selected list. If you have a Lookup field in a list, such as Assigned To, and it has thousands of items in it and you would rather have users type in the value instead of picking it from such a long list, select this check box.

If you are toggling back and forth between disabling your Lookup fields and enabling them, you must refresh your Web Browser or clear your temporary Internet files for the change to take effect.

If your data source is Bamboo List Rollup, this option will be grayed out (unavailable) because the list rollup data view may contain lookup values from multiple lists and it is not possible from a performance perspective to get all the possible values for the lookup selection.

5. Language for search criteria

Select a language from the drop-down menu to translate the Web Part user interface and tool pane settings. You can also create your own translation or modify the default files available in the drop-down menu. See Customizing the Translation Settings for more information.

NOTE: Only the English, French and Spanish translations are available. The translation options for German are currently still in English. You must customize these files directly to translate the Web Part user interface to the language you require. See Customizing the Translation Settings for more information.

Overview of Configuration Tool Pane-Advanced

Select Modify (or Edit) Shared Web Part from the menu accessed at the upper right corner of the Web Part. This menu is only accessible by users with authority to modify the page. The configuration page for the List Search Advanced Web Part is displayed on the right side of the screen. Expand the Bamboo Advanced Search Configuration section to configure the following:

If you choose to search data sources of type SharePoint List, the lists available in the current site will appear in the Available Lists column.

Highlight the lists end users will choose to search in and click the right arrow button to move them to the Display Lists column. Clicking the double right arrow will move all lists to the Display Lists column.

Choose either of the List Rollup choices and Enter URL

If you configure the web part to search Data Sources of type Bamboo List Rollup Web Part*, you need to enter the URL of the site where the List Rollup Schemas are defined. All searchable schemas must be defined in the same site.

Icon-Tip A benefit of List Rollup is that you can search lists that reside on other sites. When searching lists, the lists must reside on the same site as the List Search Advanced Web Part.

If you configure the web part to search Data Sources of type Bamboo List Rollup Web Part – Classic Edition, you need to enter the URL of the page where the List Rollup Data View/Form resides.

The available rollups will appear in the Available Lists column after clicking the green arrow button. Highlight the lists end users will choose to search and click the right arrow button to move them to the Display Lists column.

*The List Rollup web part is sold separately.

Icon-Tip Both absolute paths (http :// server name/site ) or relative paths(./ for the current site or ../ for the parent site) can be used for the site or page URL. Bamboo recommends using relative paths if:

  • Multiple Alternative Access Mappings are being used
  • The Web part will be included in a site template

In the next section, regardless of the Data Source Type configured, there are several options. See each setting’s description in the table below:

If you have Lookup fields in your list and they have thousands of items to choose from, the time to display the page with the List Search Advanced Web Part may take longer than you want it to. The extra time is needed to populate values for the Lookup columns in the list.

Icon-Tip To speed up the page display, check this box to disable populating Lookup field values in the Value column of the Web Part. This means that users will have to enter the search criteria for those columns rather than picking it from a long list.

NOTE: If you are toggling back and forth between disabling your Lookup fields and enabling them, you must refresh your Web Browser or clear your temporary Internet files for the change to take effect.

If your data source type is Bamboo List Rollup, this option will be grayed out (unavailable). Lookup column values are not populated by default when searching a list rollup.

5. Language for search criteria

Select a language from the drop-down menu to translate the Web Part user interface and tool pane settings. You can also create your own translation file or modify the default files available in the drop-down menu. See Customizing the Translation Settings for more information.

NOTE: Only the English translations are available. The translation options for French, Spanish, and German are currently in English. You must customize these files directly to translate the Web Part user interface to the language you require. See Localize Bamboo Web Parts for your Language for more information.

HW11B-Trouble.pngIf you open a page and see this message, you need to talk with the person who manages your SharePoint site. This message appears when a web part has been placed on a page, but it has not been configured. If you have the right permission level, you can edit the page and modify the web part settings. All of the configuration parameters are described in the topic Overview of Configuration Tool Pane-Advanced.

Within List Search Advanced, you are given the option to configure which list(s) and which field(s) within the list(s) to search. Many times you will pick a variety of column types from which to search. Depending on the column type, you will be presented with a variety of selectors. The selectors that are available are based on the column types that are described in the table below.

Column Type What Column Contains Search Operators
Calculated Calculated columns use a formula you build that contains operators, such as subtraction (-) and addition (+), functions, specific values, and references to other columns. Formulas can calculate dates and times, perform mathematical equations, or manipulate text.

When using this column in your search criteria, you have the following choices:

  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Greater than
  • Less than or equal to
  • Less than
  • Great than or equal
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)
  • Is Null (is blank)
Choice You use this column field type to let people choose from a list of options that you provide. This column type is an ideal choice in cases where you want to ensure that all of the data in the column is consistent because you can limit the values that are stored in a column.

When conducting a search on a choice column, you have the following comparison operators on which to search:

  • Contains
  • Begins with
  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Greater than
  • Less than or equal to
  • Less than
  • Great than or equal
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)
  • Is Null (is blank)
Currency You use this field type when you need to store monetary values.

When you need to set your search criteria for money, consider how the comparison operators are affected by monetary values:

  • Contains
  • Begins with
  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Greater than
  • Less than or equal to
  • Less than
  • Great than or equal
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)
  • Is Null (is blank)
Date and Time This column field type is used when you need to store calendar dates, or both dates and times.

When using a date as your search criteria, you have the options of comparing:

  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Greater than
  • Less than or equal to
  • Less than
  • Great than or equal
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)
  • Is Null (is blank)

Also, a date icon appears in the value section so you can quickly pick a date so it is formatted correctly.

Hyperlink or Picture When you use this column field type, it stores a hyperlink to a Web page or displays a graphic on the intranet or Internet.

Search criteria for a hyperlink or picture is as follows:

  • Contains
  • Begins with
  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Greater than
  • Less than or equal to
  • Less than
  • Great than or equal
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)

Lookup This column field type is used to let people choose values based on information that is already stored in the site.

When you set up your search criteria, you have the options of comparing:

  • Contains
  • Not Equal to

  • Is Null (is blank)
Number You use this column field type to store numerical values that are not monetary values.

Searching for a numeric value, you have the options for:

  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Greater than
  • Less than or equal to
  • Less than
  • Great than or equal
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)
  • Is Null (is blank)
Multiple lines of text This column field type is used for collecting and displaying formatted text or lengthy text and numbers on more than one line, such as a description of or comments about an item.

Person or Group This column field type provides a searchable list of people, e-mail distribution lists, and groups from which people can choose when they add or edit an item.

Your choices when searching for a person or a group are limited to:

  • Equal to
  • Not Equal to
  • Not Null (meaning it is not blank)
  • Is Null (is blank)

A people picker icon appears so that you can look up your search criteria to find a person or a group.

Single line of text Use this column when you need to collect and display small amounts of unformatted text in a single line.

For the Advanced Search web part, your choices for this column type are:

If you are using the simple search web part, your option is simply to enter text you are searching for.

Yes/No A Yes/No column appears as a single check box when people enter information about an item.

List Search – Simple

When you configure this Web Part for users, you provide them with the ability to perform focused searches on list columns by using the preconfigured search criteria. Users can additionally search all columns within a list, select default values in search fields, and print the search results or export them to Excel. Additional properties include the ability to:

  • Select which list you want to search and the specific fields from the list that you want to search with.
  • Indicate that the search is always an And search or an OR search.
  • Select which List view you want to use to display the search results.
  • Select whether you keep the search criteria on the same page with the search results.
  • Allow users to select default values in search fields.
  • Allow users to print the search results.
  • Allow users to perform a key word search in all list columns.
  • Translate the Web Part user interface to French, Spanish, German or English, or customize the translation to a language of your choice.
  • Customize the look and feel of the Web Part user interface by modifying the HTML source code and Web Part CSS.

List Search – Advanced

Allow end users more control over their search options with our Web Part. The end user can select the list to search and the list view for displaying search results, use Boolean operators to narrow the information in the search results, and group search criteria. In addition, users can search within List Rollup data view, created by a Bamboo List Rollup Web Part. Additional properties include the ability to:

Specify a set of lists to be available for the user to select from for searching.
Keep the search criteria on the same page with the search results.
Allow users to print the search results.
Disable lookup fields to control Web Part performance.
Translate the Web Part user interface to French, Spanish, German or English, or customize the translation to a language of your choice.

To use List Search Advanced, do the following:

2. Once a list is selected, choose a field name to define search criteria. Enter a comparison value. The values listed depend on the type of field chosen. Then enter a value. hw11b015.jpg
3. If additional criteria is to be entered, select AND or OR and another line will appear. Repeat step 2.
4. If two or more lines need to be grouped, select the lines by checking the box in the left column of the criteria line. Once selected, click the Group box. Blue indicators will appear to the left of the field name to show that the lines are grouped. To ungroup, select the lines and click Ungroup. hw11b017.jpg
5. Why might you need to group? Grouping allows you to control the order in which the search criteria are processed. For example, say you wanted to find Announcements that contain the word “SharePoint” and were created either by Jane Smith or Larry Mason. If you entered the criteria as described (i.e., the Body criteria first and then the two Created by criteria with the one for Larry entered last) without grouping, some announcements created by Larry that don’t contain the word SharePoint may appear in the results. If you group the two Created by criteria, you will get the correct results. Another example is the one shown in the screen shot above – if the Company starts with “A” criteria were entered first and no grouping were used, the results could include an item created by Larry with Company that starts with something other than “A”.
6. To delete a criteria line, select it and click Delete.
7. Select the View to use to determine which columns will be shown in the search results. Note: any filtering configured on the View will not be applied. However, additional criteria can be specified to refine/filter the search results.
8. Click Reset to clear the search criteria and start again, if needed.
9. When ready, click Find to execute the search. The search results are displayed. hw11b019.jpg
10. In the search results display, click any column heading to sort the results by that column. Click again on the same heading to reverse the sort order.

To see the details of an item, click the linked item.

NOTE: the column containing the link to the item is specified in the view used to format the search results display. If this view doesn’t include a column with a link to the item, no link will appear in your search results list.
